From Business Analyst to Software Developer: how our colleague Geanina managed to build a successful career by constantly acquiring new skills

Citește în continuare

My name is Geanina-Maria Dobre and I have been working in SG GSC for 6 years. I currently work as a Software Developer for about 1 year. During these 6 years I had several roles such as: KYC Analyst, Junior Business Analyst and Quality Assurance Analyst.
The fact that I tried different position helped me realize what career trajectory suits me, and now, in my current role I feel motivated to constantly improve my skills.
My previous work experience was:
My first position was the role of a KYC Analyst which meant verifying the identity of clients, assessing the risks and compliance of the documents received from them. In this position, it was the first time I did “knowledge transfer” with new colleagues and I was very happy to see the amazing outcome.
In this role, I encountered many challenges considering that my work was related to different clients and profiles. I am glad that I managed to successfully solve all these situations, and the support received from my team at that time was extremely helpful in carrying out my tasks.
Then followed a position of Junior Business Analyst which meant collecting information from various documents and proposing solutions for process optimization. Thus, I started to have an overview of the activity in SG GSC related to internal processes. In this role, I have constantly looked for solutions to streamline the activities related to document analysis.
Quite a challenge in this role was the interaction with various colleagues’ French speakers. Although I had the necessary foundations in this language, it wasn’t easy to communicate directly and efficiently with the extended team. However, I am glad that over time I managed to improve my French skills a lot.
Because I was looking for a change, I decided to try a completely different position, so I ended up in the role of Quality Assurance Analyst. It was a complex role that gave me a broad vision of how the applications are developed within SG GSC. I was glad to test software applications and to ensure a very good quality for the solutions offered to the entire Societe Generale Group. Among the main responsibilities in this role was the creation of scripts meant to help generate pdfs more easily.
It was a major change for me, to move from the area associated with finance and legal to the IT field. However, the skills acquired overtime gave me the confidence needed to perform very well in this totally different position. Obviously, I had to learn a lot, to develop new skills, but I was proud of myself and all the effort I put into becoming a specialist in that role.
I am currently a Software Developer.
The previous role helped me reach this position where I can develop applications and make complex scripts. Over time, I have acquired the necessary skills to work autonomously and to fully create sophisticated projects. Of course, I still have a lot to learn, but I am constantly trying to propose the best possible solutions, customized to the needs of our partners.
During these 6 years in SG GSC I took part in many certified courses, such as Lean Six Sigma, Cloud Developer or Devops Expert level. Such opportunities helped me develop my technical skills and grow professionally.
In addition to the courses I attended, the fact that I was part of several teams helped me improve my skills related to teamwork and communication. I always received understanding and support from colleagues and managers, so that, at this moment, I know exactly what I want from a manager or from the team I am part of.
The fact that I managed to go through so many experiences and challenges made me mature and develop both professionally and personally.
At the moment, the role I have and especially the team I am part of, motivates me to advance in this technical direction and to continue the learning process in order to reach as complex positions as possible.
I would like to thank all my colleagues and managers who supported me in my professional decisions and gave me the opportunity to try new things. Thanks to them I was able to work a field that I had been thinking about for a long time, but which seemed not that easy to access considering my background experience.
